The River Lions announced today the team is trading away centre Mike Allison and a 2017 2nd round pick in return for point guard Nick Okorie, formerly of the Island Storm.
A Texas Tech graduate, Okorie has been an all-star twice in his four years in the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC), playing for Mississauga, London, and the Island Storm. Okorie is currently averaging 16.7 points per game while shooting a league-best 47% from beyond the arc. He holds the 4th most points, and 3rd most three-pointers in NBLC league history.
In return for Okorie the River Lions have agreed to send forward Mike Allison to the Island Storm. The 6’10” centre from Lynden, Ontario was a member of the River Lions for two seasons, although he has played just three games this season sidelined by injury for the majority of the campaign. The River Lions will also send a 2nd round pick in next season’s Canadian draft.
“We are continuing to make moves that we believe will benefit our team,” said the Franchise’s President and General Manager, Jeffrey Sotiriou - “Nick has proven himself as an elite guard in this league and his three-point shooting will definitely be a great help to our offence.”
Newly-hired Head Coach Keith Vassell spoke to the trade saying “We brought Nick in because he is a great point guard with plenty of NBLC experience. He (Okorie) will most definitely provide a boost to our three-point shooting percentage.”
The River Lions invite you to come see Okorie in his debut on March 14th when the team plays host to the Orangeville A’s. Visit Ticketmaster to secure YOUR seats!
