St. Catharines, ON ― The River Lions are elated to announce that they have partnered with Regional Chair Alan Caslin to host the River Lions’ second annual Minor Sport Appreciation Night on April 21st when the Lions take on the Halifax Hurricanes. Elected in 2014, Chair Caslin has made it his mission to support local sport including the River Lions and the Region’s minor sports through the Chair’s Annual Golf Tournament. Funds raised through the chairs golf tournament are rolled back into Niagara through partnerships such as this one with the Niagara River Lions.
“As a former basketball coach, I’m excited to support minor sports and young athletes across the Niagara region through the Regional Chair’s annual charity golf tournament, because I know firsthand the impact that sport can make in a young person’s life,” stated Regional Chair Alan Caslin. “As Niagara looks forward to hosting the Canada Summer Games in 2021, supporting young athletes is essential because we know that those developing their skills today are the gold medalists of tomorrow,” he added.
The Regional Chair’s Annual Golf Tournament has raised over 1.5 million dollars to date and this year’s tournament will mark its 20th anniversary. The Golf Tournament continues to be one of the Region’s most successful and welcomed charitable initiatives.
"I cannot think of a better partner for an event that hopes to benefit those involved in minor sport. Niagara's minor sport landscape is rich, and Chair Caslin was very adamant that some of the funds raised at his golf tournament go back to appreciating minor sport throughout Niagara" said Josh Knoester, the River Lions Manager of Corporate Partnerships and Sales.
The River Lions are hoping to build on the success of last year’s game and they believe with Chair Caslin as their Game Day Presenter they have put themselves in the best position to succeed. Minor Sport Appreciation Night aims to pay tribute to the hard-working individuals who work to grow minor sports across Niagara; this statement includes the adults who make sacrifices to spend time organizing and coordinating minor sport, as well as the kids who commit to playing and helping to grow their respective sport.
Discounted tickets have been offered to members of minor sport associations across Niagara - if you or your family are involved in minor sport please contact the River Lions Front Office at (289) 273-5905 to find out how you can save.
