St. Catharines, ON – The Niagara River Lions announced today the leadership team that will be the driving force behind the Life After Basketball (LAB) Program introduced by the team during the 2020 Summer Series. The LAB team is made up of six leaders and mentors across several industries that will provide River Lions players with knowledge, skills, and guidance in their respective fields.

Each leader will host group sessions with the River Lions players during the course of the 2021 season, while also being available for one-on-one support.

River Lions Assistant General Manager, Antwi Atuahene developed the LAB program and will not only serve as the director of the program, but also cover the topic of social media and brand management with the players. Atuahene will draw upon his own experience navigating a career and building a brand after retiring from professional basketball.

“The main focus in business is to build meaningful relationships, serve others and add value,” said Atuahene. “The program is going to provide our players with the resources and support to give them a head start at their next potential career. Our goal is to have players explore their other interests outside of basketball, so they can have something else to look forward to.”

LAB Leadership Team Members include:

1. Antwi Atuahene, Assistant General Manager, Niagara River Lions (Director & Social Media/Brand Management)
2. Jeff Chesebrough, CEO, Innovate Niagara (Entrepreneurship)
3. Kevin Ridgway, Financial Service Representative, Meridian Credit Union (Finance)
4. Jeremy Van Moorsel, Financial Service Representative, Meridian Credit Union (Finance)
5. Ted Boldt, Broker of Record/Owner, Boldt Realty Inc., Brokerage (Real Estate)
6. John Trivieri – Chief Risk Officer, Meridian Credit Union (Mentor)

Team members were hand picked based on their expertise, strong ties to the Niagara Community and willingness to help further our players’ personal development.

“Being a huge River Lions fan and sponsor, I’m honoured to share my positive approach to life and my experience on real estate investing and business knowledge to the team,” said Ted Boldt, Broker of Record/Owner of Boldt Realty Inc. Brokerage. “I look forward to inspiring each and every player to be their best in their life after basketball.”

John Trivieri, Chief Risk Officer at Meridian Credit Union recognizes the importance that athletics play on shaping individuals and looks forward to being part of the LAB. “In my professional career, I have always been a firm believer that the discipline, dedication and determination of athletes are assets both on and off the court. These are attributes I look for in hiring within my profession and the ones I recommend to my many contacts in other professional areas.“

Sessions are expected to start as soon as players report for training camp in June.

The River Lions recently announced the schedule for the 2021 season set to tip off in June. The CEBL is preparing for its third season in 2021 following the success of the 2020 CEBL Summer Series hosted in St. Catharines, which saw a record 1.2 million viewers across Canada tune in to four days of live programming on CBC.
