ABOUT THE BRAND & COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR ROLE:
The Niagara River Lions are excited to announce that team Captain, Kimbal Mackenzie has been hired in a full time role as Brand and Community Ambassador, marketing a first of its kind position across all teams in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). The first-ever athlete-community ambassador role, and are happy to have team captain, Kimbal Mackenzie stepping into this new position during the off-season months. This groundbreaking role is designed to extend the River Lions impact beyond the court, strengthening community ties and growing the game of basketball across the region. As Brand and Community Ambassador, Mackenzie will engage with fans, mentor young athletes, and inspire the next generation through school visits, coaching, and leadership presentations. His presence in the Niagara community throughout the CEBL off season (September to April) will allow him to embody the River Lions’ moniker of pride and strength of community.
The structure of this role will allow Mackenzie to return as team captain for the 2025 River Lions season (May to August), ensuring a year round connection between the team and the community.

MEET KIMBAL MACKENZIE:
Kimbal Mackenzie’s journey began in Oakville, Ontario, where he was the only kid in his elementary school who played basketball. Standing at just 6’1”, the odds were stacked against him, but his dream of playing basketball professionally never wavered. With determination, countless hours of practice, and the support of his family, Kimbal overcame every challenge along the way. From his early days at Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School to playing on both Canadian and international courts, Kimbal’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance and believing in yourself. Now a proud father of two, Kimbal is shifting his focus toward building stronger roots in his local community, sharing his knowledge, and giving back while prioritizing family life. Guided by his principle, "win the day," Kimbal is excited to inspire others, grow his coaching career and make a lasting impact on the community while embracing this new chapter as the River Lions’ Brand & Community Ambassador. His journey continues to be a reflection of hard work, resilience, and a genuine desire to make an impact where it matters most.
KIMBAL'S PLAYBOOK: EXPERIENCE & ACHIEVEMENT
Kimbal Mackenzie is a proven leader, accomplished professional basketball player, and the newly appointed Athlete-Brand & Community Ambassador for the Niagara River Lions. He earned a Division 1 scholarship to Bucknell University, where he not only excelled on the court but also earned a B.A. in Economics and later continued his education to obtain a M.A. in Finance and Investments. As the 2024 CEBL champion and captain of the River Lions, Kimbal has competed at the highest levels, playing professionally in Europe and representing the Great Britain National Team. Kimbal’s leadership extends beyond basketball—recently, as Head Coach of Niagara College’s women’s team, he led them to an impressive 14-2 record, demonstrating his coaching expertise and dedication to empowering others. His commitment to community service was recognized in 2024 when he received the Ben Zwolak Community Award for his exceptional contributions. Known for his passion for mentoring and motivating others, Kimbal is a natural fit for this role, where he will continue to inspire both on and off the court as a dedicated advocate for the Niagara community.

School Visits
Students will learn about Kimbal's inspiring journey to NCAA Division 1 basketball and professional leagues. Students will learn about time management, leadership, balancing life, and building healthy habits, while enjoying interactive Q&As, basketball skills demonstrations, and fun activities focused on teamwork and sportsmanship.
Practice Workshops & Instruction
Schedule a basketball practice with Kimbal, focusing on skill development, fundamental techniques, and pro-level insights. Learn NCAA and professional team strategies, teamwork, and ways to build a winning mindset and improve performance.
