St. Catharines, ON – The Niagara River Lions announced today that Victor Raso will return as Head Coach and General Manager for the 2020 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Season. Victor was awarded Coach of the Year after leading the team to the most wins in franchise history.
“I am incredibly thankful to the River Lions organization for believing in me and buying into my vision of making Niagara the best place in the country for Canadian professional basketball players to develop over the summer months,” said Raso.
Boasting an impressive record last season that included finishing in first place in the regular season, 8 home wins, and a 75%-win ratio, Raso looks to build on the foundation he laid during the 2019 season.
“Every member of our team left our program as a better player, and as a better teammate than they were when they arrived. While our team accomplished many great things this past season – we fell short of our ultimate goal. I am excited and privileged to be able to lead another group of men into the 2020 CEBL season. We have some unfinished business to take care of.”
Raso is no stranger to winning, having won back to back CIS national titles in 2013 and 2014 as captain with Carleton University; ultimately taking on the role of Assistant Coach for the Ravens. Victor first joined the River Lions for the 2017-18 season as Lead Assistant Coach.
“We are excited to have the 2019 CEBL Coach of the Year back in Niagara. Over the past couple years, Victor has been instrumental in the River Lions success both on and off the court and he is already working hard to build a team that will be a true contender in 2020,” said River Lions President, Jeffrey Sotiriou.
The Niagara River Lions return to Meridian Centre in May 2020 for their second season in the CEBL. Season tickets are available now by contacting tickets@riverlions.ca
