River Lions Sign American Rookie Tyree White

St. Catharines, ON – The Niagara River Lions announced today the signing of Tyree White, a 6’8” forward from St. Louis, Missouri, making this his first professional contract since graduating from the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) where he competed in the West Division of the Sun Belt Conference in Division I of the NCAA.

“Tyree is an incredibly talented young man and we are excited for him to begin his professional career with us,” said Head Coach and General Manager, Victor Raso. “He has the size, athleticism, and skill level to potentially play his position in the NBA, and it is our job to develop those skills while building his understanding of how to impact winning at any level. Tyree has the ability to be a phenomenal player, and we expect that he will make a big impact on our team this summer.”

White began his collegiate career at Moberly Community College where he helped the Greyhounds to a combined record of 53-10 over his two seasons, averaging 7 points and 5.5 rebounds in his sophomore year. 

After transferring to ULM in he appeared in all 35 games averaging 5.5 points and 3.1 rebounds while leading the team with 27 blocked shots in his junior season. During the 2018-19 season, White started in 25 of 29 games and averaged 10.6 points and 5.8 rebounds.

I’m extremely excited to join the CEBL and Niagara,” said White. “It is a blessing to be in the position that I am. Coming into the season I want to impact the teams success and help win games. I can’t wait to get to work with my team.”

The River Lions recently announced the schedule for the 2021 season set to tip off in June. The CEBL is preparing for its third season in 2021 following the success of the 2020 CEBL Summer Series hosted in St. Catharines, which saw a record 1.2 million viewers across Canada tune in to four days of live programming on CBC.
